Lumeca IPL Photofacial

If you have hyperpigmentation, sunspots, unwanted freckles, small spider veins or other vascular lesions that haven’t responded to topical creams and treatments, you need to check out Lumecca! Unlike the plethora of one-dimensional alternatives out there, Lumecca is a highly versatile, full-spectrum skin rejuvenation system that has the power to undo years of sun damage, among many other common skincare woes.

Best of all, Lumecca is a quick, convenient, and totally non-invasive skin treatment that requires no incisions or needles, and comes with very little downtime. Whether you’re looking for that extra boost before a big event or if you’re simply taking a proactive approach to maintaining clear skin, Lumecca offers dramatic results the easy way.

What is Lumecca?

Lumecca is the most powerful intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment on the market that treats pigmented and vascular lesions. After use, patients notice significant improvements in the complexion and clarity of the skin. Lumecca operates using photo- thermolysis, which provides a photofacial through the delivery of a comfortable light treatment.

In short, photo-thermolysis stands for the use of light (photo) and heat (thermo) to destroy (lysis) targeted cells while preserving surrounding tissues. Carefully targeted broad-spectrum light is absorbed by the melanin in your skin, breaking this excess pigment apart so it can be processed out by the body.

Lumecca represents the latest wave of refinement in this technology, delivering faster and more thorough results with the help of optimized power and precision. In other words, if you’re looking to remedy more than one or two problem spots, Lumecca just may be the treatment platform for you.

What Are The Benefits?

In just 1-3 sessions Lumecca improves the appearance of:

  • Age spots (red/brown pigmentations)
  • Sun damage
  • Vascular lesions (spider veins, port wine stains, leg telangiectasias)
  • Rosacea (redness)
  • Freckles

The heating effect of Lumecca also stimulates collagen production, which offers a major, multi-fronted boost to multiple aspects of overall skin health. As collagen and elastin fibers proliferate throughout the skin as a response to Lumecca, they improve both the skin’s firmness and elasticity, creating that more youthful appearance. Best of all, this process unfolds gradually over time, delivering steadily improving results for months.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Lumecca can be used on all areas of the body. The only exceptions involve permanent makeup or tattoos, areas affected by skin infections or keloid scarring, and more factors to be covered in greater detail below.

The most common areas of treatment are zones that are regularly exposed to the sun. These often include the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands, arms and tops of feet.

Who Is (and Isn’t) a Good Candidate for Lumecca?

As a noninvasive, widely well-tolerated treatment, Lumecca is a safe and effective option for a diverse range of patients. However, this doesn’t guarantee that everyone will be deemed an ideal candidate. The best way to determine your eligibility is to consult with us at Empowered Wellness Aledo, but for now, here’s an abbreviated list of factors that help or harm your candidacy:

You may be an ideal candidate for Lumecca IPL treatment if:

  • You present to the consultation with hyperpigmentation, age spots, sun damage, and/or freckles that have responded poorly to topical treatments
  • You have a lighter skin tone, typically within the Fitzpatrick I-III range (darker skin types have a greater risk of hyperpigmentation)
  • You’re looking for a non-invasive, minimal-downtime treatment that, while not permanent, can clear up your skin for up to a year
  • You’re willing to commit to consistent sun protection practices. SPF is an absolute must!
  • You are in good overall health, not pregnant, and are not taking any medications that may enhance your skin’s sensitivity to treatment

You may NOT be an ideal candidate for Lumecca IPL treatment if:

  • You have a darker skin tone (Fitzpatrick IV and beyond), as this increases your risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation or burns
  • You have an active acne or skin infection breakout in or around the treatment area
  • You have a condition that enhances your skin photosensitivity, such as lupus or some forms of eczema
  • You have recently used Accutane
  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have epilepsy

It’s important to note that not all of the above factors automatically disqualify you for Lumecca IPL treatment. In some circumstances, for example, you may be advised to suspend the use of certain medications. In others, waiting for a breakout to clear up may be all that is required. Either way, consulting with our team at Empowered Wellness Aledo will allow you to safely and confidently confirm your eligibility.

Expectation Management: Understanding What Lumecca Can (and Can’t) Do

Even for patients who are otherwise well-qualified for Lumecca IPL treatment, if expectations aren’t properly aligned before proceeding with treatment, then it may be more appropriate to review alternative options.

Lumecca is not a surgical treatment, and while it offers a wide range of benefits, this treatment platform doesn’t address every aesthetic concern. For example, Lumecca is not an effective treatment for patients looking to reduce skin laxity. Neither is Lumecca the most appropriate option for patients looking to address deep wrinkles.

However, Lumecca is an excellent option for lightening up sun spots, reducing redness, evening out the complexion and more. Patients looking for an easy, effective, non-surgical solution to these issues have exactly that in Lumecca.

What Steps Must Be Taken Before The Procedure?

We will provide you with personalized instructions in order to ensure you are properly prepared for your Lumecca treatment session(s). Generally, patients are advised to avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning one month prior to treatment, and for at least several weeks after treatment. No antibiotics or products that cause photosensitivity can be used for 14 days prior to Lumecca treatments.

What Should I Expect During and After Lumecca?

IPL photofacials can be spicy! Some patients prefer the use of topical numbing creams prior to their treatment. The treatment itself can take as little as 15 minutes or as long as an hour depending on the size of the treatment area.

Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subsides within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours some areas of skin may become darkened or flaky; over the following week these pigmented lesions flake off, leaving behind lighter, more even skin. It is extremely important to protect recently treated skin from sun exposure.

How Many Sessions Are Required?

An improved skin appearance can be noted after the first session and multiple sessions provide even better results. Treatment regimes depend on the severity of skin damage, type of treatment (vascular vs sun damage) and energy settings chosen by your provider.

To provide a general framework, many patients report significant improvements after 2-3 sessions, with the most optimal results appearing after 3-5 sessions. Our team at Empowered Wellness Aledo will provide you with a personalized treatment plan that best reflects your presentation and your goals, including determining the optimal number of Lumecca sessions for you.

Why should I get my Lumecca Photofacial at Aledo Empowered Wellness?

It all comes back to customization and understanding the science. At Aledo Empowered Wellness we care about the whole patient. During your consultation we want to learn about all your aesthetic goals–not just the ones you want treated right away. This information is important in getting you the best possible results. Some procedures should be done in a certain order; some work together and amplify results while others can be counterproductive. Nobody wants to waste time and money on compromised results! Make sure when you choose your provider they have the big picture, and all of your health, wellness and aesthetic goals in mind.

Can Lumecca Be Combined With Other Treatments?

Lumecca IPL is a powerful treatment in its own right, but for even more comprehensive benefits, it does in fact play well with a number of non-surgical aesthetic treatments.

For example, as part of your comprehensive skincare strategy, Lumecca can be paired with a chemical peel. When properly timed, these two treatments can handle both superficial and deeper pigment and vascular concerns, among others.

Microneedling neatly complements the benefits of Lumecca IPL photofacial by enhancing the skin’s texture and firmness via collagen stimulation. Finally, both neuromodulators (think Botox) and dermal fillers can add to the Lumecca glow-up effect by more effectively addressing fine lines and volume loss.
